This half day forum will provide insights into key business leaders instrumental in shaping the business and entrepreneurial landscape in South Florida.  The discussions will include commentary from successful women executives from diverse sectors along with an entrepreneurial panel sharing their personal journeys of business building.  Also, key note thoughts from global executives and business networking will round out the program.

    <p>In a journalism career covering news from high global finance to neighborhood infrastructure, Tom Hudson is the Vice President of News and Special Correspondent for WLRN.  He hosts and produces <a href="http://wlrn.org/programs/sunshine-economy" target="_blank">the Sunshine Economy</a> and anchors <a href="http://wlrn.org/programs/florida-roundup" target="_blank">the Florida Roundup</a> in addition to leading the organization's news engagement strategy.</p>

Hudson was most recently the co-anchor and managing editor of Nightly Business Report on Public Television. In that position Hudson reported on topics such as Federal Reserve interest rate policy, agriculture and global trade. Prior to co-anchoring NBR, he was host and managing editor of the nationally syndicated financial television program “First Business.” He overhauled the existing program leading to a 20 percent increase in distribution in his first year with the program.

While Tom was co-anchoring and managing NBR, the program was awarded the 2012 Program of Excellence Award by American Public Television. Tom also has been awarded two National Press Foundation fellowships including one for the Wharton Seminars for Business Journalists in 2006. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Iowa and is the recipient of several professional honors and awards for his work in journalism.

<p>Albert Santalo is a computer scientist and Internet entrepreneur with experience in high growth, venture-backed technology companies having raised in excess of $100 million of equity capital from venture and angel investors for companies he has founded. He currently advises various technology ventures and founded Thrillient, a company thats assists traditional and e-commerce businesses with utilizing state-of-the-art payment and front-office technologies. Previously, he was Chairman and CEO of CareCloud, a company he founded in 2009 that is working to disrupt the status quo of healthcare IT with a modern, cloud-based platform. CareCloud is backed by Norwest Venture Partners, Intel Capital, Tenaya Capital, First Data Corporation, PNC Bank and Adams Street Partners.</p>

Previously, Santalo was Chairman and CEO of Avisena, a venture-backed revenue cycle management company he founded for physicians that was sold in 2015.He is the lead inventor and has a U.S. patent for Avisena’s accounts receivable management methodology. He also worked at the Hackett Group / Answerthink working with Global 2000 companies.

    <p>Alice Bravo was appointed Director of the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) in February 2016. The department includes all functions of the previous Miami-Dade Transit, along with the County Engineer, Traffic Operations, Construction and Maintenance and Highway Planning, as well as the Passenger Transportation Regulation function. DTPW is responsible for Miami-Dade County’s entire surface transportation system, the planning, maintenance and operation of our roadways, transit system and taxicab and limousine services.</p>

As Director, Ms. Bravo oversees accessible transportation services in Miami-Dade County. This includes the Metrobus fleet that runs approximately 28.9 million miles through most areas of Miami-Dade County; the electrically powered, elevated, 25-mile rapid transit Metrorail system; the 4.4-mile elevated Metromover; and the Paratransit service (Special Transportation Service) that meets the needs of the disabled.

Throughout her career, Ms. Bravo has been responsible for managing a number of diversified public-private partnership projects involving design, construction, finance, operation and maintenance, including the $1 billion PortMiami tunnel; the innovative I-95 Express Project; and the $550 million S.R. 826-S.R. 836 interchange reconstruction project. These projects have helped improve commuter mobility throughout Miami-Dade County.

Ms. Bravo is a licensed Civil Engineer with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami and a Master’s in Business Administration from Florida International University.

Through fun and authentic stories, Mundo Lanugo inspires children to maintain their Latin culture and Spanish language while building the child’s self-esteem and identity. </p>

Since Mundo Lanugo’s early stages, Carla’s integrated brand marketing strategies have taken it nationally appearing in public and commercial television, and being promoted by companies such as Univision, Youtube, and Macy’s.  

Previously, Carla co-founded a successful import/export business and was on the management team of Farmacia Carol, the largest drugstore chain in Dominican Republic where her action oriented and results driven qualities proved results in energizing the brand, engaging consumers, and driving front end sales.

She is a trailblazer defined at core by passion, commitment, and proactivity. Carla is also a sought out Latina mom speaker regarding raising bilingual and bicultural children. She has been featured in Despierta América, Huffington Post, Un Nuevo Día, Al Rojo Vivo, NBCLatino, and CNN en Español, amongst others.

A graduate of Babson College, Carla resides in Miami with her husband and 5 years old twin girls.

    <p>Pamela Kohl serves as Executive Vice President, Chief Products and Marketing Officer, at Banco do Brasil Americas. Joining the executive leadership team in 2012, Pamela is directly responsible for both the product set offered at the bank as well as traditional and digital marketing strategies. In addition to developing traditional banking services, Pamela has established a de novo prepaid card program, credit card program, and global payments platform.</p>

Pamela brings 20+ years’ experience in financial services, predominantly in the disciplines of marketing, product development, and sales strategy. Pamela is an Alumni Ambassador for the Horatio Alger Association and serves as vice-chair of the Women’s Leadership Committee at the Florida International Bankers Association (FIBA).

Prior to this role, Rachel drove double-digit growth as head of the SNL Kagan business and before that developed SNL's international financial products and business plans as part of an extensive global growth plan for the company. Before entering the private sector, Rachel spent several years at the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, where she served as one of the main architects of the U.S. targeted sanctions program on Iran. Rachel holds an MBA and MA in International Studies from Wharton, a BA from Princeton University, and served as an International Affairs Fellow with the Council on Foreign Relations.</p>

She is the former President of Miami for GenSpring Family Offices, spending 10 years involved with many of the firm’s growth and expansion efforts given her prior role heading the national team of business development professionals.</p>

For more than 25 years Julie has worked extensively with entrepreneurs and wealthy families in areas including the acquisition and financing of closely-held businesses, real estate portfolio acquisition and management, investment capital management, estate planning, beneficiary mentoring and education, in addition to other aspects of multi-generational planning. Her professional passion lies in helping families solve complex wealth issues. Julie earned her MBA in Finance from American Graduate School of International Management and her Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies from Bradley University, graduating magna cum laude. She has held many leadership roles at not-for-profit organizations supporting education, the arts and public service areas. She has been a guest lecturer and speaker on topics including women & investing, entrepreneurship, private equity investing, real estate investing and wealth challenges. Julie speaks Spanish fluently and is proficient in Portuguese given her extensive travel in Latin America.

    <p>Matt Haggman joined Knight Foundation in 2011.</p>

In his role as Miami program director, Haggman leads Knight’s communities program in South Florida and launched the foundation’s initiative aimed at connecting and propelling Miami’s emerging entrepreneurs and startups as a way of building community.

Previously, Haggman was an award-winning journalist covering issues of local and national importance. He initially covered legal affairs for the Daily Business Review in Miami before moving to the Miami Herald, where he spent nearly eight years covering real estate and local politics, and worked as an investigative reporter. Haggman won numerous awards for his work, including a Gerald Loeb Award, the highest honor in business journalism. In his last two years at the Miami Herald, he twice won the President’s Award, which honors the best work in the McClatchy newspaper chain.

In his last full year as a journalist, the Miami New Times named him as the Best Miami Herald Reporter in its annual “Best of Miami” awards.

Haggman serves on the boards of Endeavor Miami, New World Symphony and The LAB Miami. He is co-chair of the Beacon Council’s One Community One Goal initiative, along with serving as an advisory board member of New Leaders Council Miami and The Miami Foundation’s “Our Miami” initiative. He is also a founding member of TEDxMiami, which has presented programs to sold-out audiences each of the last four years. Haggman is a longtime volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Miami.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Tulane University and a law degree from Vermont Law School. Haggman and his wife, Danet Linares, live in Miami.

As the CEO, he grew the company and led a team of 250 employees, successfully capturing 8% of market share. His business was successfully sold to a larger player in the industry in 2011. After that, Murilo earned his MBA from Babson College and worked in innovation projects for Johnson &amp; Johnson and other pharmaceutical companies in the US and abroad.</p>

    <p>Leslie Baumann, M.D. founded the University of Miami Cosmetic Medicine and Research Institute in 1997—the first academic institute in the US dedicated to cosmetic dermatology. She served as Professor of Dermatology at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine until 2006 when the Institute became independent from the University and the name changed to the Baumann Cosmetic and Research Institute.</p>

Dr. Baumann is the author of 3 bestselling books: Cosmetic Dermatology: Principles and Practice (McGraw-Hill 2009), Cosmeceuticals and Cosmetic Ingredients (McGraw Hill 2014), and The Skin Type Solution (Bantam 2005). Dr. Baumann has been involved in the Phase 3 FDA clinical research trials of the most notable products procedures in cosmetic medicine including Botox®, Dysport,® Emervel®, Juvederm®, Kybella® Restylane Silk®, Sculptra®, and Voluma®.

She earned her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, and completed her residency in Dermatology at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine. She is a board certified dermatologist, member of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) and a Fellow of the prestigious American Dermatological Association (ADA).

<p>Victor H. Mendelson is the Co-President and a Director of New York Stock Exchange-traded HEICO Corporation. He founded HEICO’s Electronic Technologies Group in 1996 and has been its Chief Executive Officer since then.</p>

Most identified as the world’s largest designer and maker of FAA-approved alternative commercial aircraft replacement parts, HEICO is a diversified aerospace, defense and electronics manufacturing and services company with production, engineering or distribution facilities in 20 states and 11 countries. HEICO has been named one of the “100 Most Trustworthy Companies in America” and as one of the “World’s Most Innovative Growth Companies” by Forbes.

Mendelson received his A.B. degree from Columbia College of Columbia University in the City of New York and he received his J.D. degree from the University of Miami School of Law. He was a recipient of the American Dreamer Award from Hispanic Unity of Florida, the Twelve Good Men Award from Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Florida and the Impresario Award from the Florida Grand Opera Society.
